Your Puppy’s Social Journey 💕🐾

Your puppy’s social development begins the moment they enter the world. Surrounded by their mummy, brothers, sisters, and caring breeders, they start learning all about love, comfort, and feeling safe. These precious early moments help shape the happy little soul they’ll grow into before they ever come home to you.

This journey is gently divided into two special stages:

Stage 1: Puppy Play & Doggy Friendships 🐕💞

In this first stage, puppies learn how to be dogs through snuggles, playtime, and gentle guidance from their mum and littermates. They discover how to communicate, share, and understand boundaries — all while feeling secure and loved.

Stage 2: Falling in Love With Humans 🥰🌷

This stage is all about people. Puppies learn that humans bring cuddles, kindness, and safety. Through soft handling, soothing voices, and positive experiences, they begin to build trust and confidence with the humans who will become their forever family.

These early stages are so important and help your puppy grow into a confident, loving, and well-rounded companion ready to take on the world with you 💗🐾

Making Doggy Friends & Learning Puppy Manners Before they Leave Mum and Litter mates 💖🐶

This first stage is all about puppies learning how to be dogs in the safest, sweetest way. Through gentle play, cuddles, and little life lessons from their mummy and littermates, puppies begin to understand how to communicate, share, and interact kindly with other dogs.

Tumbling around with their siblings teaches them important boundaries, while mum’s calm guidance helps them feel secure and protected. These early doggy friendships build confidence and help your puppy learn that other dogs are friends, not something to be worried about.

This loving foundation plays a big part in helping your puppy grow into a happy, confident dog who feels comfortable and relaxed around other dogs 💕🐾

Stage 2 – Secondary Socialisation

Falling in Love With Humans 8 Weeks old to 3 months old 💖👩‍🦰🐾

This beautiful stage begins when your puppy is ready to leave their mummy and littermates and start their new life with you. This usually happens at around 8 weeks old — a big milestone filled with cuddles, bonding, and brand-new experiences.

At this age, puppies are naturally curious, open-hearted, and eager to learn. It’s during this special window that they begin to understand people and how to respond to them. Gently introducing your puppy to lots of different types of humans — of all ages, shapes, and voices — helps them grow into a confident, friendly little soul.

Once your puppy has had their first vaccinations, you can slowly start showing them the world beyond home. New sights, sounds, and places help build confidence, especially when these adventures are calm, positive, and full of reassurance. Puppy socialisation checklists can be a lovely way to make sure you’re covering all the important experiences without feeling overwhelmed.

This stage is all about building trust, love, and confidence — setting your puppy up for a happy, relaxed life by your side 💕🐶🌷

Next Big Steps are: 💖🐾

Even though the key socialisation stages may be over, it’s still so important to keep gently socialising your dog as much as possible 💖🐾

During their first year of life, your dog continues to grow both mentally and physically. Introducing them to lots of different people, animals, and places helps them feel confident, relaxed, and happy in the world around them. These positive experiences all add up to creating a well-rounded, well-mannered dog.

There are lots of lovely ways to support ongoing socialisation, including dog socialisation classes, puppy groups, and doggy day care. Each new experience helps build confidence, strengthens your bond, and allows your dog to continue blossoming into the best version of themselves 🌷🐕
